When we were called in to help restore a floor in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield, we had no idea what we were about to uncover. After carefully ripping up the client's old carpet, we were met with a hidden gem: a stunning parquet floor beneath. Although we weren't immediately sure what type of wood it was, our excitement was palpable — we couldn't wait to get started!

As soon as we began sanding, we quickly identified the wood as Pitch Pine, one of our personal favorites for its warm, rich tones. However, the floor had been covered for years, and there was significant buildup of dirt and carpet underlay glue. But no challenge was too big for our experienced team.

Pitch Pine Parquet Floor Restoration

To get started, we used 36-grit sandpaper on the Hummel belt sander, working in straight lines against the grain. This aggressive sanding technique helped to level the floor and remove the tough glue and dirt, preparing it for the finer sanding stages.

Next, we switched to 60-grit sandpaper, working with the grain, followed by 80-grit for a smoother finish. To achieve that perfect, silky-smooth surface, we buffed the entire floor using 80-grit and 120-grit pads.

The final touch was to enhance the floor's natural beauty. We applied a base coat of Junckers Baseprime, which brought out the rich, deep colors of the Pitch Pine. To finish, two coats of Junckers HT700 lacquer were applied, giving the floor a beautiful shine and providing the perfect protection to ensure it stands the test of time.

This restoration not only brought out the inherent beauty of the floor but also showcased the expertise and attention to detail our team brings to every project. We’re proud to have revived this timeless parquet floor, adding lasting value to the home.
